River Hawks Hockey
Armstrong River Hawks Hockey is a proud member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) and fields teams at the Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels. These teams are for both boys and girls.
JV / Varsity Registration Deadline is March 31, 2025
Ages
River Hawks Hockey players must attend school at Armstrong High School, or one of the elementary schools that feed Armstrong High School. Lenape Vo Tech Students from AHS are eligible, as well as home & cyber school students who would otherwise attend AHS or one it's elementary schools. The Middle School Team is for players who are at least 12 years old in 2025 and in 6th grade this fall, on up to a maximum age of 14 years old in 2025 and in 8th grade this fall. (In some cases a 14 year old 9th grade student is eligible for the Middle School Hockey team based on the coaching staff discretion). Varsity / Junior Varsity is for players in 9th grade through 12th grade this fall. Team placement will be based on final tryout results in August.

Where
The Armstrong River Hawks Hockey teams are based and operated from The Belmont Complex located at 415 Butler Rd. Kittanning, PA 16201.
Practices
Additional Costs
River Hawks Boosters conduct several mandatory fundraisers throughout the season which go towards program related expenses and activities. Please contact the River Hawks Hockey Boosters for more detailed information.
Games
The Armstrong River Hawks Hockey teams will participate in the PIHL season and possibly other USA Hockey sanctioned games and tournaments, at the coaching staff's discretion.
Jerseys
River Hawk player uniforms consist of home / away jerseys, socks, shell, and warm up attire at the coaching staff discretion. Matching color helmets and gloves are required. Each player will be required and responsible for the purchase and care of their River Hawks uniform. Costs associated with their uniform are not included in the season fee. Please see policies for more information.

Please note, your USA Hockey confirmation number for the 2025- 2026 season will be required to tryout.
If you plan to tryout for an Arrows team and a River Hawks team, you must register for both prior to tryouts.

Additional Information on Fees:
Each player in the River Hawks Program is also responsible for working Kitchen Duty shifts at the Belmont Complex (a $240 Buyout option is available). Please see "Organization" / "Policies" / "Volunteer Responsibilities" for Kitchen Duty information.
Each River Hawk player is required a minimum of $200.00 in River Hawk Program fundraising.
AAHL / River Hawks may provide additional fundraising opportunities to assist in financing.
Additional Tryout Info:
Please arrive at least 60 minutes prior to tryout start time. Bring a white and dark jersey (black / blue – Jerseys should be plain with no names), you will sign in and get a tryout number for your player. At this time, we will also be verifying that registration has been completed.
Placement on a Team
Player placement will be announced on the AAHL website within a reasonable time frame after the last tryout date for each team. You will have 24 hours, after notification, to decline placement on a team. After the deadline, your commitment fee is non-refundable. The Commitment Fee is non-refundable once team placement is accepted. If you decline placement on a team in the stated time frame, your commitment fee will be reimbursed and there will be no further charges to your account.

AAHL / River Hawks reserves the right to hold supplemental tryouts to fill any & all open roster positions post open tryouts.
AAHL / River Hawks will adhere to all policies of USA Hockey and Mid Am in regards to tryout dates.
