AAHL will adhere to all policies of USA Hockey and Mid Am in regards to tryout dates
Tryout Registration and Commitment fees:
“National Bound” Tryout Fee: $100.00
“National Bound” Goaltender Tryout Fee: $5.00
“National Bound” Commitment Fee for Skaters and Goaltenders: $500.00
The Commitment Fee will be deducted from the total tuition fee for each player
Tryout Registration Fee and Commitment Fee is due at time of Registration:
The tryout fee is non-refundable, even if you do not attend all tryout sessions or decide not to play on a AAHL team.
AAHL Online registration will be available soon at: www.armstrongarrows.com
You will need to complete your AAHL online registration prior to arriving at tryouts. You will need to register your player with USA Hockey for the 2019-2020 season prior to completing the AAHL online registration. Please bring a copy of your AAHL registration receipt with you to tryouts for each team.
Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to tryout start time. Bring a white and dark jersey (black / blue – Jerseys should be plain with no names), you will sign in and get an AAHL tryout number for your player. At this time, we will also be verifying that registration has been completed.
Placement on a Team
Player placement will be announced on the AAHL website shortly after the last tryout date for each team. You will have 24 hours, after notification, to decline placement on a team. After the deadline, your commitment fee is non-refundable. The Commitment Fee is non-refundable once team placement is accepted. If you decline placement on a team, your commitment fee will be reimbursed.
Players will not be allowed to skate in the tryout unless they have paid the commitment Fee. No Exceptions!
AAHL reserves the right to hold supplemental tryouts to fill any & all open roster positions post open tryouts.
“National Bound” Player Fees:
U14 Player Fee: $2500 + $500 in Mandatory Fundraising
U14 Goaltender Fee: $500 + $500 in Mandatory Fundraising
U16 Player Fee: $2500 + $500 in Mandatory Fundraising
U16 Goaltender Fee: $500 + $500 in Mandatory Fundraising
Each player will receive (50) $10.00 cash/gun raffle tickets to be sold as the teams mandatory fundraiser.
Each player in the AAHL is also responsible for Kitchen Duty at the Belmont Complex ($210 Buyout).
AAHL does provide additional fundraising opportunities to assist in financing.
Each “National Bound” Player will be required and responsible to purchase their Arrows uniform which includes: Jersey, Socks, Shell, and Warm-ups. “National Bound” players are required to wear Navy Blue Helmets and Gloves.
There are no hidden fees!
“National Bound” Team Fees INCLUDE:
Approximately 45 - 50 games (Teams could participate in more games) including: PAHL, Tournaments/Showcases, Independent Games (“National Bound” Coordinator will select Tournaments/Showcases and Independent Games for each “National Bound” Team), Mid Am State Playoffs if eligible, 2 ice practices per week (set weekday practice schedule after season begins), Summer ice practice starting in early July. The teams will also participate in off-ice conditioning program during the summer. Players will receive team issued hockey bags and practice jerseys. The goal of each “National Bound” Team is to qualify for the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships April 2 – 6, 2020.

“National Bound” Teams are High School Friendly
Players are permitted to miss practice for High School Games. Players are expected to attend the “National Bound” practices if there are any other conflicts in schedule such as practice.
Tier II / PAHL Team Placement:
AAHL will make a placement recommendation, but the PAHL determines the final placement of ALL teams in the league. AAHL cannot guarantee the level of play for any team playing in PAHL.

Meet the Head Coaches
Lee Grafton - Armstrong Arrows “National Bound” Program Coordinator & U16 Head Coach
"My goal as the Armstrong Arrows “National Bound” Program Coordinator and Coach is to develop hockey players so they can reach their maximum potential through skill development, increasing their hockey knowledge and hard work. I believe every player in the program should give 100% all of the time. My coaching staff and I will push our players outside their comfort zone to become better players.
“I plan to build upon the Armstrong Arrows “National Bound” Teams’ successes. As an elite Tier II Program, we will continue to compete for league championships, state championships and National Championships yearly. Our “National Bound” Teams will play in tournaments and independent games that will allow our players to showcase their talents to prep schools, junior and college hockey teams."
Lee Grafton has 12 years of playing experience that includes the Armstrong Arrows, Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins, a 5-year varsity letterman for Armstrong Central / Kittanning and 3 years of Junior hockey for the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins, Pittsburgh Junior Renegades and the Casper (Wyoming) Junior A Wranglers. Lee has played in Nationals as a member of the Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins and the Penguin Cup Finals as a member of the Armstrong Central Cougars. Lee was first selected to participate in the HS All Star Game as a Sophomore in high school. He has been a captain for his amateur, varsity and junior teams. Lee was inducted into the Armstrong Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.
Lee has 9 years of coaching experience that includes the Armstrong Arrows, Armstrong River Hawks Varsity, Kittanning Varsity and Team Pittsburgh hockey teams. The Armstrong Arrows “National Bound” U16 Team has qualified for the Tier II USA Hockey National Championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018 with Lee as their head coach. In 2016, the Armstrong Arrows lost in the National Championship game. In 2017, the Armstrong Arrows lost in the National Championship Semi-Final Game and the Quarter-Finals in 2018.
The 2017-18 Armstrong River Hawks Varsity Hockey Team was the AA regular season and the Penguin Cup Champions in Lee’s first year as head coach of the River Hawks. Lee was a member of the Kittanning Varsity coaching staff during the 2005-06 Penguin Cup Finals. Lee was also the assistant coach of 2018 Team Pittsburgh that won America’s Showcase.
